Pütter was born in Frankfurt in 1980 and has a younger brother. After graduating from high school in Dietzenbach, he completed a Master's degree program in Performing Arts at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 2001 to 2004. In 2013, he gained wider public recognition through his role as Bertok in the three-part television drama *Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter*. That same year, he made his directorial debut, co-directing the music video for the song "Money and Women" by Wyn Davies alongside Volker Bruch. In April 2021, Pütter participated in the #allesdichtmachen initiative; however, he subsequently withdrew his contribution following public criticism.
